Club HistoryAs a non-profit organization founded in 1985, the Olentangy Youth Athletic Association (OYAA) is dedicated to youth development and community service by providing varied opportunities and experiences in youth sports. From 1985 to 2002, select soccer within OYAA was a group of loosely organized, parent-coached teams that traveled in and around central Ohio playing in various recreational, middle school and travel leagues. In 2002, OYAA, in an effort to reorganize its recreation and select soccer structure so it could embrace the community’s rapid growth and love for the game of soccer, hired a Director of Coaching and Player Development. In the short three years since this strategic move, the organization’s recreational and select soccer participation numbers have soared tremendously. Today, the organization has a Commissioner of Recreational Soccer, two Directors of Coaching and Player Development and a full-time Club Administrator. Together, these individuals, along with a strong core of volunteers, work to ensure that more than 3000 soccer players and their families have fun playing, watching and coaching the game of soccer. Classics FC History (since 2002)In 2002 strides were made to take the select side of OYAA to a level comparable to established clubs in Central Ohio. In February of that year, Brian Bronowski was hired as the first Director of Coaching and Player Development. Responsible for the complete direction and re-organization of The Olentangy Classics, as they were known then, Brian assembled a professional staff and began to align all the teams with the same philosophy and training concepts. Since that time Classics teams have been able to compete at every level, won many different tournament and league titles and most of all developed players. This is evident in the development and implementation of the first Academy program in Central Ohio. Players from the Academy are now playing on Classics U11, U10 and U9 teams. As the Classics and the Classics FC Academy continue to grow, so will the abilities of their players and the competitive nature of its teams. In the Spring of 2005, The Olentangy Classics became Classics FC. The name change was crucial to the development and implementation of a true club mentality. |
